On this day, the American nation watched in shock as the most heinous terrorist attacks took place in lower Manhattan and Washington D.C. It has been 5 years already. WTC 2Many people I know have lost people in the World Trade Center attacks. 3000 lives were lost that day. Those that were lost were family, friends, co-workers and the men and women in the NYPD and FDNY who were killed in the line of duty. I’d like to take a moment to remember those who are no longer with us.

We must unite as not only Americans but as human beings. There is so much hate and anger in the world today, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this were to happen again. We must unite and stand against those who try to oppress our freedom. WTC 7We cannot let our children and future generations experience tragedy of this magnitude, but at the same time we must educate them on what happened, and never forget. This BLOG entry is dedicated to the men and women who lost their lives that day.

Although I did not know anyone personally, my heart goes out to the families that did indeed suffer a tragic loss this day five years ago.

After the events that day, the FCC banned all air traffic over the United States forcing thousands of flights to reroute to alternate locations. Air traffic in North America ceased for 2 weeks there after. There was an incident where a small charter jet landed in a real small town in Canada. The people aboard this plane were not prepared for the events to come. The people of this small Canadian town took them in like they were one of their own. Provided food, clothes and shelter for their entire stay not excepting any donations because they felt like they had to do something good in a time of crisis. Anything they could do to comfort these people was done without thinking or expecting anything in return. Simply out of kindness. They became a part of their families.

Once air traffic resumed, these people came home to a devastated nation. A person who was on that small charter flight returned to that small Canadian village sometime after and went to the local restaurant and paid for every meal for everybody in that town for 2 weeks. This story touched and inspired a friend of Taiko, for he lost over 60 colleagues and friends in the World Trade Center attacks. He wanted to do something good on a day that will never be forgotten as a tragic and terrible day.

Our friend, who would like to stay anonymous,  generously paid for the food everyone ate that day. He only asked one thing in return. Go out today and show an act of kindness to another. Do something good for someone else and to never forget what happened on that day.  It felt so good to see someone trying to make some light in such a dark time.  Our friend has inspired me to try to be a better person. P.C., thank you for everything.
